Cheers to the weekend, babes!
I’ve been putting some serious focus toward making weeknights fun lately, and it’s really paying off. Yes, today is Friday. But I also don’t feel like I’ve been deprived of fun for the entire week. If you are going home from work and just wallowing on the couch YOU ARE DOING LIFE WRONG!
Obviously we all get tired. But there’s a difference between resting and just being pathetic. I’m not judging here, because about 70% of the time I fall into the pathetic category. And yet I talk all the time about wanting work/life balance. So, why do I let myself be totally consumed by the work day only to come home and “recover”? WE ALL NEED TO STOP THIS! This weekend, take a few mins to think about how you can practice self-love and do something next week that will bring you joy. It’s different for everyone. Something as simple as grabbing your fav face mask from Sephora can change your whole vibe. Or maybe if you’re like me, it’s making a delish cocktail and having the leftovers one night next week when you get home from the daily grind…
So, in honor of the cold temps and my love for wine and chocolate, I’m bringing to you the best of both worlds. Let me explain the scenario surrounding this AMAZING drink. Of course if you watch my instagram stories you know that I was on the hunt for the ideal snow day cocktail. You guys sent me so many great things that I was dying to try! But, hands down the best came from Hello Hullabaloo reader Ann. She sent in a recipe for a red wine hot cocoa and it is PERFECTION.
Just to break this down for you… you make it in a crockpot. So, minimal effort is needed and it’s perfect for days when you just don’t give a shit. Or, you can make it ahead of time and pop it in the fridge to reheat when you want to spice things up.
You are likely to already have all the ingredients stowed in your pantry but if you don’t they are generic enough that you can pick them up for fairly cheap just about anywhere. SO let’s get down to business and get this drink in your hand.
Red Wine Hot Cocoa
- 2 1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate
- 1/4 cup Ghirardelli cocoa powder (unsweetened)
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 6 cups whole milk
- 1 stick cinnamon
- 1 bottle red wine
Toss all ingredients into the crockpot/slow cooker on high.
Stir every 20 minutes until chocolate is fully melted and incorporated.
Keep on low or warm for serving. Pour into mugs using a ladle and enjoy!
Who is running to the store and making this tomorrow night? I can’t think of a better way to celebrate your Saturday. Let me know your thoughts if you make it and be sure to tag @hellohullabaloo in any photos or stories on Instagram. I snacked on a few raspberries with mine and it was just the right balance to the rich chocolately-ness of the wine cocoa. It’s really just the best thing I’ve done for myself lately, and you’ll be glad that you did too.
